Johnsons Lab Logistics – first class care for Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust

The Situation

In June 2011, managers at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust recognised a need to relocate the trust’s Women & Children’s Unit to a new £33 million facility in north Manchester.

The departments to be relocated were the maternity ward, the special care baby unit, and the children’s ward.
This project involved the relocation of ward, theatre, and medical equipment as well as offices and office supplies. Project Planning and Project Move Management were key aspects of this relocation due to the sensitive nature of the works.

Johnsons was appointed to facilitate the move.

The Solution

Our skilled and qualified Move Management team was complimented by a large staff and technical resource base to enable the delivery of a bespoke service, and resulted in the project being reduced from the initial 3 day schedule to a one day relocation.

We worked in partnership with the Trust throughout the project to ensure its requirements weren’t only met but expectations exceeded, and the project was completed within a reduced timescale and budget.

Our dedicated project management service encompassed:

  • Full project move management;
  • Employing our DGSA (Dangerous Goods & Safety Advisor) to support and provide the legally required transportation documentation;
  • Supplying experienced/trained/uniformed JLL relocation team members;
  • Supplying ADR-compliant vehicles and certified ADR drivers as required;
  • Supplying crates, security seals, labels etc;
  • Suppling qualified/skilled fitters to undertake the dismantling/reassembling of equipment;
  • Installing building protection to all main walkways/doorways/lifts as required.
The Outcome

Our flexible and dynamic approach to project move management and service delivery enabled this project to be completed with minimal disruption to the trust both during and post relocation activity.

Client Quote

David Shepherd, from Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said:

“We have a good working relationship with Johnsons and specifically use them as they’re competitive, always turn up on time with the correct number of operatives, and their removal team is always courteous which matters especially when patients and our staff are affected. In addition, many of our moves are to newly refurbished accommodation, so careful manoeuvring of the furniture is critical – Johnsons take the necessary care.”
