Managing complex relocation process
The Situation
Cells4Life was founded in 2002 by a group of forward-thinking scientists and doctors, who knew that stem cells were the future of medicine.
They also knew that the umbilical cord was a rich source of stem cells.
At first, they stored their own children’s umbilical cord blood for regenerative therapies, as these cells are used in clinical trials for conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy, and Alzheimer’s.
The company has since stored for customers in more than 50 countries.
Cells4Life needed to relocate 17 tanks containing liquid nitrogen with stem cell samples in them – 15 from Bishops Stortford and two from Rochdale – to the company’s state-of-the-art laboratories in the south of England.
The contents of each jar were valued at up to £3m – meaning stringent insurance cover needed to be put in place.
Furthermore, due to the design, weight, and condition of some of the tanks, standard forklift trucks couldn’t be used to relocate them. ology on samples to ensure results are accurately and efficiently delivered.
The Solution
To overcome design constraints, we used a reinforced tail lift – providing more stability and safety onsite.
The Outcome
The entire project was completed on budget and on time with minimum disruption to Cells4Life’s daily operations.
